Welcome To Northview School

I would like to welcome you to Northview Elementary School, where we prepare our students to learn, grow and reach their greatest potential. The goal of Northview School is to develop future ready students by being student centered, sparking a love of learning, and empowering all students to reach their individual potential.

Our school serves students in Preschool through Fourth Grade. Northview School has an enrollment of approximately 560 students. Our dedicated, caring, and highly qualified faculty and staff members work diligently to educate our students.

The Bright Futures Preschool Program serves 3 and 4-year old students at no charge. This program is a five day-a-week program and runs 2.5 hours per day, and the expansion program is full day.

We pride ourselves on providing high quality education emphasizing literacy skills (reading/writing) and mathematics. Science and Social Studies are integrated into our literacy standards along with thematic units at grades K-2.  Students in Grades 3-4 have their own Science and Social Studies block of time during the school week.  Our prioritized literacy standards cover five main areas: phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, comprehension, and reading fluency. It is intense, varied, and aligned to the Illinois State Standards. In addition to our reading program, we believe in a rigorous mathematics program. All grades have aligned their lessons to the Illinois Math Standards and have created Priority Standards specifically for our Northview students. Students are allowed many opportunities to work with math manipulatives and hands-on learning tools.

At Northview School, we embrace technology as an important part of teaching and learning in the 21st century. Technology provides students with opportunities to collaborate, create, problem-solve, and access information in meaningful ways that enhance classroom instruction. At the same time, we recognize that technology is most effective when used as a tool to support learning rather than replace high-quality teaching, critical thinking, and human interaction. Our goal is to help students become responsible digital citizens who can use technology purposefully, thoughtfully, and in balance with other learning experiences.

I look forward to working with you as we take the first steps in the educational journey of your children. We are proud of our school and welcome the opportunity to share more with you. Please feel free to contact us by calling 815-223-1111. We would be happy to assist you in any way that we can!

Heather Baker, Principal
