Welcome To Northview School

On behalf of the administration, staff, and students I would like to welcome you to Northview Elementary School, where our students are our first priority and we build educational foundations for life-long success. Our school serves students in Preschool through fourth grades. Northview School has an enrollment of approximately 575 students. Our dedicated, caring, and highly qualified faculty and staff members work diligently to educate our students. There are a variety of special education programs offered to the students as well as physical education, music, and art.

The Bright Futures Preschool Program serves 3 and 4-year old students at no charge. This program is a five day-a-week program and runs 2.5 hours per day, and the expansion program is full day.

We pride ourselves on providing high quality education emphasizing literacy skills (reading/writing) and mathematics. Science and Social Studies are integrated into the literacy program along with thematic units at grades K-2.  Students in Grades 3-4 have their own Science and Social Studies block of time during the school week.  Our literacy curriculum covers five main areas: phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, comprehension, and reading fluency. It is intense, varied, and aligned to the Illinois State Standards. Students are educated via a core reading program, individualized reading programs, research based intervention programs, and best practices in reading.  The  ELA Reading Curriculum is Houghton-Mifflin Harcourt's Journeys Program, which is aligned to the balanced literacy approach and meet the needs of all our readers at Northview.  There is whole group, small group, and independent activities for the students.  Close reading is also a key component of the new reading program.

In addition to our reading program, we believe in a rigorous mathematics program. All grades have aligned their lessons to the Math Standards. Students are allowed many opportunities to work with math manipulatives and hands-on learning tools. Problem solving and finding multiple ways to come up with the answer is encouraged.

All students at Northview have access to technology daily.  We have a computer lab with 25 Chromebooks, and we have ten (12) mobile Chromebook carts.  Students in grades 2-4 are 1:1 with Chromebooks.  These students have access to a chomebook everyday and do not have to share them with other grades.  Students in grades K-1 have access to mobile IPAD carts and they also have computers in their classroom.  This technology allows even more applications to be used during small group interventions, large group work, and literacy centers!   All classrooms also have an Epson Projector, which is an interactive technology tool that allows students to fully engage in their lessons.

I look forward to working with you as we take the first steps in the educational journey of your children. We are proud of our school and welcome the opportunity to share more with you. Please feel free to contact us by calling 815-223-1111. We would be happy to assist you in any way that we can!
