Reading/Language Arts: Our Reading curriculum is Houghton Mifflin Journeys. Mrs. Backes, Mrs. Freschi and Mrs. Holman are the Reading & Language Arts instructors.
Math: EnVision MATH is used to assist the mastery of the state academic standards called Common Core. There is an online component that provides a variety of ways to work through problems. Some of the resources available are virtual manipulatives to aid in their understanding with a “hands-on” approach to learning, an animated description of each lesson, and some practice and reteaching activity pages. Each student has a username that consists of the first letter of their first name, full last name then peru. Username: mmouseperu Password: Peru#1234
Science / Social Studies: Social studies and science are taught using the interactive TCI programs, History Alive and Science Alive. Each program is designed to reach learners of all abilities through research-based, active instruction. Students go in-depth and hands-on in all areas of the content. Science also uses FOSS resource kits to supplement the curriculum, which allow students to apply the scientific method through various experiments and extensions working in collaborative groups. Social Studies also offers multiple opportunities for interactive learning through plays, presentations, songs, debates, and station work.
Classroom Management
Fifth grade students are expected to follow the Raider Rules in each classroom.
Be Respectful: use kind words to each other.
Be Responsible: stay on task, complete your work, and have all materials ready
Be Safe: use all materials appropriately & keep hands to oneself
*** Students will receive a “check” when any of the Raider Rules are not followed. During the months of September and October, students will be allowed up to 4-5 checks in a week before a classroom detention is assigned. Nov-May = 3-4 checks
***Students are rewarded with Raider Tickets for following Raider Rules. These tickets can be turned in for a variety of passes and prizes from our Raider Cart.
*** Please refer to the Parent/Student Handbook for specific explanation of school policies.
